"Do you fit in? Do your clother fit? Dou you keep fit?

We all try to interact with each other, to like and be liked,
what we wear is a statement of the we are, it's a choice we make every day"

'Easy Living' At Selfridges

Press Release Spring/Summer 1999.

Drawing on his long-running interest in architecture of the 1950s and 1970s and the philosophy of functional spaces the world over.

Mark Croxford has created a visual lexicon of shapes and forms in wood. Each installation can be viewed separately, but together they express a common theme of travel through landscapes foreign, urban and domestic.

In the purity of a natural material, these Sculptures present a new direction on the man-made spaces which we all inhabit, transforming with a clarity and cleanness of form, a vision of urban light which would otherwise tend towards the chaotic. In Croxford's strong linear forms, such tensions are contained and simplified.

Mark Croxford has exhibited in Switzerland, Finland, Estonia and Briton in one man and group Shows.

OSEA

Preview               25 November 1999
Exhibition            26-28 November 1999

A structure taken from the urban landscape is a fragment of Mark Croxford's major new installation at Bishopsgate Goods Yard ' OSEA has been devised from the time Mark spent on this tiny unparelled coastal curiosity.  Spanning high, low to high tide, this time-based work uses ambient and definitive sounds from Osea Island.  Contained in an uncompromising structure, constructed and assembled to amplify a variety of Osea Island sounds interior and exterior.

Mark's minimal and seductive work explores childhood memories of the seaside and holidays from an urban perspective.  Mark has rejected the norm of merely viewing; Osea demands to be heard rather than just observed as the participator passes through this engaging and stimulating work.

Mark Croxford's work is subtle, engaging and reflective, utilising the everyday by triggering personal recollections while engaging in a real experience.

Mark has shown in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Britain, Switzerland, Finland and Estonia.

Mark Croxford, will be available for interview during the installation period.
